Updates and an Invitation to CLPP 2015

The last 6 months have held so many challenges and so much excitement, that it just made sense to put the blog on the back burner for a while. Here are some brief updates of the adventures we’ve had since our last post: Morgan’s name change and gender change finally went through! He now has a

A Simple Anniversary

As I sit listening to Case of You (sung by my beautiful sister) and reflecting on the past few days, I can’t help but feel incredibly content. Before Morgan and I first discussed our plans for the anniversary of our first date, I was a bit anxious. What were his expectations? Do we exchange gifts?

Gluten Free German Chocolate Cupcakes with Boozy Buttercream and Whiskey Salted Caramel Sauce (And Why Dogs Shouldn’t Eat Them)

Morgan’s birthday started off unintentionally early, as our dog, Tank, managed to get a hold of six of these cupcakes yesterday and ate them, wrappers, boozy frosting, and all, in a matter of minutes. Obviously, these cupcakes were not created with Tank’s digestive system in mind and she quickly regretted her thievery. As Tank pouted on the couch, I cleaned up the remnants of the cake while fuming to one of my friends about the situation…

Kicking off NYC Pride Week with the Mermaid Parade

When I was little, I desperately wished I was a mermaid. Back then, I would pretend to be Ariel in the bathtub with my hair flailing out in the water. Needless to say, I don’t think it’s a big surprise that the prospect of going to the Mermaid Parade at Coney Island had me giddy with anticipation.

Normally, I am the queen of crafty, inexpensive costume creation, but I somehow neglected to think through my outfit until late Friday night. Initially I resigned to just wear my typical pirate outfit, but I made the poor decision of Instagram surfing #mermaidparade when I woke up Saturday morning. After viewing all the gorgeous get-ups other parade-goers were preparing, I decided I needed to be more creative…

Homemade Basil Vodka

The other night, Morgan made us his delicious Lemon Basil Pesto Chicken Salad for dinner. He brought home a package of fresh basil, and only used about half of it for the salad. Anytime we have extra fresh herbs I struggle to find a purpose for them before they go bad. Morgan had the genius idea to infuse the basil in some vodka though, as he knows how much I love a great bloody mary…

Orange Is the New Black: Snack and Drink Recipe Round Up

The day we’ve been anticipating is finally here, OITNB Season 2 is out! Sadly, I’m stuck at home trying not to Netflix cheat while Morgan’s at work. As I anxiously await his arrival, I’ve been pulling together some delicious snack and drink ideas on Pinterest. Personally, I’ve been craving some chicken (The Chickening, anyone?) hot wings, which I think will be perfect with the Take No Prisoners Hot Sauce. I’m also thinking about frying up some gluten free Oreos, just for the heck of it…

#SouthernEats: Gluten Free Beer Batter Fried Chicken and Oreos

Food memories are dangerous things. The other day I was reminiscing about the time I spent in Spokane, Washington during college and I recalled many late nights at The Onion, a local restaurant chain. Some friends shared that there were secret menu items available only by request, one in particular was worth knowing about. That’s when they introduced me to beer batter fried Oreos.

Now, I have a deep love of fried food. It reminds me of sipping sweet tea in rocking chairs on a Southern porch…

Support Trans* and Intersex Organizations for #GiveOUTDay

Today is your last chance to give during the second annual #GiveOUTDay, a national campaign to promote giving to organizations that support the LGBTQ community.

Morgan and I strongly urge you to consider giving to organizations that put trans* and intersex issues at the forefront of their work. A recent study showed that most LGBTQ(I) organizations only add the T or the I as a symbolic gesture of acknowledgement and their programming often does not address the issues that trans* and intersex individuals face…

Do I still need a pap smear if I am trans* or genderqueer and on T?

While on Tumblr, Morgan and I came across a great question that I think many young trans* people are curious about.

Should I still go to the gyno if I’ve never been (I’m only 16) and have been on T for nearly 9 months now?

Such a good question and I understand why theotheropinion might not necessarily recommend gynecological exams to trans* individuals (I’m inferring) due to potential discrimination within the clinical setting. However, I believe that it is important to advocate for better LGBTQ health care in order to ensure the future of medicine includes competent care for our community members…

Moving and Comfort Food: Tilapia and Artichoke Hearts with Lemon Butter Caper Sauce

Moving into a new apartment is unequivocally stressful. Especially when you are combining two people’s accumulated junk into a tiny one-bedroom in Brooklyn while accompanied by an anxiety-ridden dog. Tank reminds us a little too much of Helper Dog, especially when she whines and decides to lick all the things.

In order to keep us sane and less likely to scream at each other, we decided to take a week off from cooking at home. Here’s what we indulged in…
